‘Stellenbosch need no motivation against Chiefs’

- Tshepang Mailwane Tomorrow: Sunday:

SAMMY Troughton believes there are still a lot of people who have no idea that Stellenbosch United used to be known as Vasco da Gama, so the highprofile Nedbank Cup first round clash against Kaizer Chiefs will give the club the publicity it needs.

The NFD outfit, who host Chiefs tomorrow (Athlone, 8.15pm), have an opportunity to join clubs such as Baroka, FC Cape Town and Black Leopards, (3pm unless stated)

Cosmos v Rovers, Tsakane Stadium; FC CPT v Baroka, NNK Rugby Stadium; Buya Msuthu v Celtic, Moruleng Stadium; Kwa-Dukuza United v Ajax, Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium; FS Stars v Highlands, Goble Park Stadium (8.15pm); Stellenbosch v Chiefs, Athlone Stadium (8.15pm);

Arrows v Maritzburg, Princess Magogo Stadium; Days FC v Mbombela, Griffons Rugby Stadium; Acornbush v CPT City, Kabokweni Stadium; EC Bees v Pirates, Sisa Dukashe Stadium who have all beaten Amakhosi in the competition while playing in the lower divisions.

“There is no motivation needed for a game of this stature,” said Troughton. “It’s also good publicity for the club. Chiefs are favourites to win the game, but we will have a few surprises up our sleeves.”

Stellenbosch are fourth on the NFD log and have a good chance of finishing in one of the two play-off spots. “Obviously, the mandate from management is to get promotion. But this game gives us a chance to get away from the pressure of the NFD [promotion],” said the former University of Pretoria coach.
