Fifa break helps Pirates

‘We learnt more about Jonevret’s philosophy, style’

- By Sihle Ndebele

Orlando Pirates will reap the benefits of the Fifa international break as it has helped them learn more about new coach Kjell Jonevret’s philosophy.

This is according to defender Marc van Heerden.

“It [the Fifa break] helped us a lot. Some players came back from injuries [and] the coach got a chance to see everybody.

“We have learnt more about his philosophy and the way he wants us to play,’’ said the recipient of the Absa Premiership goal of the month for AugustSeptember.

The award was for Van Heerden’s strike against Baroka when he was still on the books of Chippa United.

He added: “For us it was not a break, we have been working hard. I trust that our work will talk for itself in our coming matches. The coach has been working on instilling our confidence back. As players we know what our fans expect. We have set ourselves a target to make them proud at the end of the season.”

Asked about preparations for their game against Free State Stars tomorrow at James Motlatsi Stadium (6pm), the 29-year-old defender said: “We have analysed them a little bit. We are ready.”

Having joined the Sea Robbers from Chippa in January, Van Heerden made his Bucs debut in a 6-0 humiliation by Mamelodi Sundowns.
