Baby bump and SA celebs
There are South African celebrities who also pulled off the preggie baby bump on the red carpet flawlessly. Maternity wear designer Nina Sedumedi cites the following:
Mbali Mlotswa, pictured. She also has a maternity wear line, and she knew how to make and wear clothes that really suited her through the trimesters. She also knew how to pull off trendy streetwear for her bump. they may end up opting to cover themselves. This is the reason I started my brand; to show women they can be very sexy even when pregnant.
“Shake off the mindset that your baby bump being exposed will result in a tragic miscarriage or some bad omen. This is not true. A pregnant woman is still a woman, and every woman needs to feel sexy!”
Sedumedi warned though that women need to be careful not to cross the line over to crass.
Nandi Madida. She was a goddess with flowing dresses that showed off her baby bump very well. She also paired most of her looks with a lot of jewellery, providing that wow factor.
Singer Bucie. She looked great in short dresses and heels during her pregnancy.
1st trimester:
The smaller the tummy, the more you can still show off. Torn jeans with thigh-length Tshirts are a cool way to do this. You can still pull off skinny jeans with peplum tops, as they will look amazing with the emerging baby bump. Shirt dresses are also great, as well as trench coats.
Pair them with colourful heels, because in your first trimester, you can still rock your heels!
2nd trimester:
The tummy is getting bigger, so this is your opportunity to show off that baby bump by acquiring clothes and dresses with some detailing around the waistline to show it off stylishly. Bodycons with gathered detailing around the waist, for example, or dresses with kitten bows on the neckline give that sexy effect. Women have amazing cleavage in the second trimester, so do not be afraid to wear deep V-neck silhouettes.
3rd trimester:
The third trimester is a bit tricky for most women, as they experience a lot of weight gain and the baby is getting heavier. All women need at this stage is comfort. This does not, however, mean defaulting to running shoes and frumpy oversized clothing. Swap those heels for nice studded pumps and stock up on flowy dresses with a cinched high waist.
