Pregnancy is arguably one of the most important events in a woman’s life. There are a lot of changes to the body that come with expecting a child.

For many women, this can be a really big challenge and fashionabl­e maternity wear can be the least of their worries.

But lets face it, some maternity wear is hardly flattering and one can end up looking like they are wearing a hospital gown.

Yet we see so many Hollywood celebritie­s pulling off the baby bump so elegantly and stylishly.

The likes of Kerry Washington, Beyoncé and Ciara have blown us away on the red carpet with sexy outfits that hugged them in all the right places.

How do they do it?

Stylish maternity wear designer Nina Sedumedi says that this is definitely possible.

She says that what she has noticed about these celebritie­s who look great when pregnant is that they embrace motherhood, which is important.

“Women need to stop looking at pregnancy as an inconvenie­nce.

“Yes, your body will go through a lot of changes, and yes you will lose your figure and maybe even struggle with bad skin, but embrace the new you. The trick with looking amazing when you are pregnant starts off with your inner dialogue.

“If you are constantly putting yourself down because you feel fat or because your feet are swollen, you can put on the most breath-taking dress on and still look frumpy,” she says.

Sedumedi adds that in South Africa, women tend to dress more conservati­vely when they are pregnant.
