Leave legacy, not liabilities

Amass riches to enable yourself to help those around us who need a helping hand

- James Nkosi Moremoholo By James Nkosi Moremoholo ■ This is an extract from the book written by Moremoholo

Everyone desires to be rich, but not everyone actually knows what constitutes enduring riches.

Of course, most people believe riches consist only of material things but that’s not true. There is a list of things that Napoleon Hill and I believe influence great riches, things like a positive mental attitude, sound physical health, harmony in human relations, freedom from fear, the hope of future achievements, the willingness to share one’s blessings with others, an open mind towards all subjects and all people, complete self-discipline as well as financial security.

As you can see, money comes at the end of the list to make a person rich.

Before further engaging in the subject of riches and philanthropy, I want to emphasise that philanthropy is the love of humanity. As far as charity is concerned, they complement each other in the sense that both are concerned with caring, nourishing, developing, and enhancing what it is to be human.

Instances of philanthropy commonly overlap with instances of charity, though not all charity is philanthropy, and vice versa. For example, the difference commonly cited is that charity relieves the pains of social problems, whereas philanthropy attempts to solve those problems at their root causes.

Your Money

Be wonderful Like Bill and Melinda Gates

To make this point clear, Bill Gates is one of the world’s bestknown philanthropists since Rockefeller, and Gates is the richest man alive. He and his wife Melinda have made a major impact in attempting to solve problems through their foundation. The Gates Foundation committed $50-million (R679-million) to support emergency response to the recent outbreak of Ebola.

And the question now is, could all these philanthropic activities that people commit themselves to happen if they were not rich?

Could Bill Gates and other wealthy people around the world ever contribute so much to society if they were just average, working class people?

Philanth ropy is why I want to be the richest; it is my ultimate reason the world will become a better place with my financial contribution to it… Nothing is as painful as seeing on the news nations that are suffering from natural disasters, and poverty, and you know you are too broke to do anything about it.

My reason to never die broke is so that I make sure when I leave this world, I leave legacies and not liabilities.

Philanthropy is quite a complex journey to embark on … It becomes a challenge to give financial help to those who don’t see the value in it or who are just greedy.

Aristotle once said: “To give away money is an easy matter and in any man’s power. But to decide to whom to give it and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man’s power nor an easy matter.” That being said, we need to work hard and become rich to help others.
