Our brother, Madimetja Owen Madiba, passed this week, and we will sorely miss him.

His friends and the community he so loved will miss him too. He was a friendly, humble and respectful person who put his family first. He was a dedicated Christian who kept to himself and served his community with distinctio­n.

Madiba of 2766 Zone 2 Seshego was born on July 31 1940 at New Pietersbur­g (Disteneng). He was the second child (first born son) of the late Dr Moses Josiah and Mary-Jane Madiba. His father was Dr Madiba, the first black chancellor of the then University of the North now known as the University of Limpopo.

He attended primary school at Kalkspruit, Mokerong and Nonchimudi and completed his matric at Mokopane Sefakaola High. He completed his tertiary education in commerce at the then College of the North (Turfloop) where he obtained his diploma.

He then moved to Boksburg where he started working at Lever Brothers before moving to Knobel Hospital in Mokopane. His last post before retirement was at Mokopane Hospital.

Madiba was a dedicated and principled administra­tor who loved a good game of tennis.

He died of natural causes on April 10 2017.

His memorial service will commence at 07h00 at 2766 Zone 2 Seshego, Polokwane.

He leaves behind four children, a brother Isiah, five sisters Beatrice, Pauline, Dikeledi, Linda and Dineo and seven grandchild­ren.

He will be buried on Saturday. The funeral service will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church Zone 1, Seshego, Polokwane. The cortege will leave at 10h00 for the Seshego Zone 8 cemetery.
