Stress-less bride gets her fairytale

Mbali Mlotshwa lived through every bride’s worst nightmare in January when she experienced a rain-soaked wedding day.

After being married for seven years to DJ Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, the power couple finally had their lavish wedding ceremony.

She reveals to Time Out that not even a torrential downpour on her big day could ruin her picture perfect and star-studded fairytale.

Held in Sun City resort, North West, celebrity wedding planner Sophie Ndaba had to quickly move the luxurious and romantic outdoor shindig to the inside.

“I’m not a control freak, so it didn’t bother me because it was still beautiful at the end of the day. I think I was one of the most stress-less brides ever. Everyone around me was panicking. I just thought ‘you are already married, this is just the wedding day’ and I found my calm there,” Mlotshwa explains.

“We have been married for seven years. We planned our life in such a way that we wanted homes and stability before spending a lot of money on a wedding. That’s what this was, it was just a celebration.”

The 29-year-old actress had three outfit changes on the day. Mlotshwa initially planned to change five times. She had a Disney princess moment and melted the hearts of many in a white embellished Gert-Johan Coetzee gown as her mom Bongi Mlotshwa walked her down the aisle.

“Cinderella was the inspiration behind my gown. I’m the perfect person to describe Cinderella and I wanted to feel like Cinderella at the ball that night,” Mlotshwa points out.

“Each dress had its own purpose. At the reception I wanted to sit down and feel comfortable because my big ball gown was impractical to sit down in. The third dress was for the after-party and I just wanted to dance, and boy did I let go.”

In a case of life imitating art she has slipped into character as wedding planner Azania in e.tv’s new telenovela, Broken Vows. The cast includes Thapelo Mokoena, Lehasa Moloi, Mandla Gaduka, Thembi Mtshali-Jones and Nomsa Nene.

Throughout her 13-year career, Mlotshwa has made a name for herself for appearing in TV shows such as 7de Laan, Rhythm City, Rockville and Tshisa. Next she will portray Collen Chauke’s wife in the upcoming biopic State Enemy No.1 with actor Mduduzi Mabaso playing the notorious cash-intransit mastermind.

“I loved working with Mduduzi. It was so nice to work with someone who doesn’t take being a celebrity so seriously. We got to play off each other,” Mlotshwa says. The mother of two is one of the hottest moms in the world. She has always managed to shed the baby weight almost immediately after giving birth though she insists it’s not as easy as it looks. While trying to get back into shape after her second pregnancy, she split her Csection scar.

“With my second I put so much pressure on myself and I wanted my stomach to pop back. In eight weeks I got my stomach to pop back, but I made a mistake that put my life in danger. “I ripped a stitch from my C-section and I just thought was it worth it? I would have gotten that flat stomach in six months any way but because I wanted it so fast it almost harmed me. So from that experience I will advise women to take their time,” she shares.
