Amajita sharpen up
Senong happy with under-20 team’s preparation
SA Under-20 coach Thabo Senong is thrilled with how the preparations are going for Amajita before the World Cup in South Korea next month.
Tomorrow, Amajita travel to Holland for the first stage of their training camp.
They will play friendly matches against three local clubs Ajax Amsterdam, Feyenoord Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle.
“I am satisfied with our preparations so far. In Holland we will not be looking for results but want to test our combinations.
“We will make sure that all the players get game time. It’s all about evaluating and assessing players,’’ he said in Johannesburg yesterday.
“From Holland we will play another three preparatory games. At this stage we can only confirm our friendly against Mexico [date to be confirmed],” he added.
“We want to try different tactics and approaches. These friendlies will also help us to look at players individually.”
Senong was forced to make some changes due to the unavailability of some players because of club commitments. Missing out on the camps is Grant Margeman of Ajax Cape Town, the SuperSport duo of Teboho Mokoena and Fagrie Lakay as well as Phakamani Mahlambi and Reeve Frosler of Bidvest Wits. Nevertheless, the players should be available for the second training camp which starts on May 6.
Amajita are drawn in Group D with Italy, Uruguay and Japan. The youth spectacle starts on May 20 and concludes on
June 11.
