Seasoned actor Sisanda Henna is elated to be back on the small screen following a three-year hiatus.

Henna will be featured on local soapie Rhythm City on e.tv from Monday, playing the character of former war-zone photojournalist Sizwe.

He says his first love has always been acting and he couldn’t be happier to be in front of the cameras again.

“I’m thrilled to be back in acting. I’m excited for the character and beyond happy to be back,” he gushes.

Henna took a break from acting to focus on directing and producing in what he says was a move to “find myself ”.

“The turn I took in my life at the time gave me a chance to be away from acting for a while and focus on other things. I sort of went on a spiritual journey due to the place I was in at the time. My acting was not happening,” he says.

Henna had just finalised his divorce from actress and presenter Bonnie Mbuli at the time. He says he is single for now.

He took on a number of other roles during that time, including a presenting gig on SABC1’s All You Need Is Love.

The 35-year-old from Eastern Cape says he had to undergo a series of auditions before finally making the cut.

“After working on a number of productions behind the scenes, I realised how much I missed acting… I said to my dialogue coach that I really need to go back to this so we started on my training. I then went on a number of auditions and finally got the call for this one.”

Henna says he has a number of local movies and one international lined up for this year.
