QUICKFIRE TO WIN SHOOTOUT

Trainer Glen Kotzen holds a strong hand in Race 7

- By RACING EDITOR

TRAINER Glen Kotzen is double handed in Race 7, a MR 72 Handicap over 1200m at Kenilworth and although Mount Keith can win it is more likely stable companion Quickfire who will get most of the action. This Querari gelding is still lightly raced having only had 14 runs, with his only win being in his second start when he beat Cossack Guard by 1.25 lengths over this course and distance. A step up in distance looked the right move at the time and eventually the three-year-old might enjoy that longer distance but he has put in two decent runs without winning. These were a close-up fifth place behind Silver Master and a runner-up berth behind Zeb over 1 400m at this course. Jockey Richard Fourie has been aboard Quickfire in all his starts and will give him every chance of winning. Mount Keith has been well beaten in his recent runs but drops in class and deserves the utmost respect. Earlier on the card the Philanthropist filly Time To Think could be ready to win her first race in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1 400m. This filly has taken her time to find her best form but was running on nicely in both of her last two starts and clearly runs for jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe. Stable companion Tiffindell and Miss D’ Aray are expected to chase her home. Two other runners worth considering on this card are River Cam in Race 5 and Sun At Midnight in Race 8. River Cam is starting to come good since going around the turn and he followed up a nice maiden win over Savuti in March with a solid fourth place behind Gyre over 1 600m. The drop in distance to 1400m will not be a problem for the Candice Bass trained Trippi colt. Sun At Midnight returned to her best with a hard fought win over Elusive Empress last time out and despite a two-point rise in her merit-rating she could win again. Richard Fourie is sticking with her which is a good sign.
