More woes for contractors
Xuma goes into liquidation for owing supplier companies millions
It will now take much longer, even another year or two, before Agnes Ngakane and Madoda Cakata can get their money from Xuma Technologies as it has now been placed under provisional liquidation.
Last Monday, Consumer Line published an article where it highlighted the plight of three subcontractors who battled to get paid after completing work for Xuma, an IT company.
Nompumelelo Dobe and Phillip Ramazhamba were paid in full after Consumer Line’s intervention, while Ngakane received just R100 000 of the R2.7-million she is owed.
Ngakane, 51, of Randfontein, said her interaction with Xuma Technologies dated back to 2010 when her company, What A Girl, installed fibre optic cable for MTN on behalf of Xuma.
Subsequently Xuma, also known as XIG, gave her a oneyear contract but their relationship went sour when they tried to poach her employees for another project, she said.
Two years later, Xuma offered her three projects and requested her to fund one of them for R1.1-million, which Xuma undertook to repay on completion. Xuma failed to meet its obligation and she has been battling since 2015, Ngakane said.
Cakata also responded to the article we published last Monday.
“Thank you for exposing these people. I am one of the victims of the unscrupulous actions of [Xuma CEO] Nathi [Nkosi] and his brother [name withheld],” said Cakata.
He said their actions left him with unsurmountable debts.
Cakata, of Technology Learning Solution SA, said Xuma owed him R4.5-million since 2014.
“I want all my money,”
Cakata said.
