ROMI’S BOY LOOKS TO BE ON A ROLL

Angels’s Power looks the main threat

- RACING EDITOR

QUERARI gelding Romi’s Boy is clearly very talented and he gave some decent horses a hiding last month. He should follow up today and win Race 7, a MR 92 Divided Handicap over 1200m at the Vaal.

Romi’s Boy picked up six points for that win over Doosra by 5.25 lengths with the balance of the runners well strung out.

Jockey Piere Strydom has been aboard Romi’s Boy in both of his last two wins but with that rider taking a break he has been replaced by JP van der Merwe who knows the horse well enough.

Interestingly Strydom has also been the rider aboard his biggest rival, Angel’s Power, who will be ridden by Lyle Hewitson. Angel’s Power will be giving Romi’s Boy 2kg and that may be a problem. Both trainer St John Gray and apprentice Calvin Habib have paid many visits to the winner’s box this year and they could team up to take Race 1 as Twelve Oaks did the pair well when winning on debut in April.

A crack at a feature for Twelve Oaks proved unsuccessful but this Juvenile Plate looks more to her liking.

One has to be wary of the chances of the improving Celestina and the two newcomers, Fan-cifilly and Mazaya.

Silvano filly B Twenty One has looked good when winning her last two starts and clearly runs for jockey Anthony Delpech so she is the selection to win Race 3, the TAB Middle Stakes over 2400m.

Penalties that totaled eight points (4kg) for those wins will make it harder for her though.

Trainer Candice Dawson has done really well with her small string and Town Flyer could be the right one to win Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 2400m. This Visionaire gelding has improved with every start and could be even better over this longer distance which he tries for the first time.

Blinkers may have brought Mister Roller back to his best. He was a very easy winner last time and could follow with another victory in Race 5.
