Baobabs’ solid league start excites coach

‘Young players are hungry for success’

- By Sihle Ndebele

Limpopo Baobabs coach Dumisani Chauke is satisfied with her team’s solid start in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League (BFNPL).

After finishing last (10th) in last year’s campaign, the Limpopo-based side brought in Chauke to turn things around. She joined Baobabs from Gauteng Jaguars where she was assistant to Jenny van Dyk.

“I am very happy with my team so far. We won our first game [43-32 over Mpumalanga Sunbirds] and that boosted our confidence. I am satisfied with the team because when I took over they were not in a good position but we are improving,” Chauke said yesterday.

“My players are happy. My target for this season is to help the team finish strongly after last year’s disappointment. We know that it is not going to be easy but we are positive that we will achieve something at the end of the tournament,” said Chauke who is also part of the coaching staff of the SA under21 side, the Spar Baby Proteas.

The ex-Spar Proteas player trusts that having young players, who are eager to prove themselves, will be instrumental in Baobabs’ BFNPL promising campaign.

“We have a lot of new, young players, who are hungry for success. I hope that will benefit us. No one knows anything about them. So they are under no pressure.”
