Oosthuizen in bid to reclaim IBO belt against Mikhalkhin tonight
Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen has warned that Russian boxer Igor Mikhalkhin will fall by the wayside just like the other 16 he has blown away.
Oosthuizen, 27, will attempt to reclaim the IBO light heavyweight belt he lost on the scales in 2015 due to his then ballooning weight.
Oosthuizen was to defend against Robert Berridge. He forfeited the belt but went ahead with the fight and toyed with the New Zealander, who just refused to go down at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.
Oosthuizen, who is rated No 16 by the IBO, and 21st-placed Mikhalkhin, will meet in Hamburg in Germany tonight.
“I am Tommy Gun. I don’t shoot blanks and I am ready to make him [Igor] sleep.”
Oosthuizen, former IBO super middleweight undefeated champion, has two draws – against Isaac Chilemba and Brandon Gonzales. Oosthuizen is yet to lose after 29 bouts.
“There is no animal like me. When I step into the square ring, it is like I am inside the den. I then let my hands do the talking. I am ready to tear him apart,” he warned.
His trainer Gert Strydom said: “Tommy is ready to correct all the wrongs he made. He has learned his lessons.
“We are here to claim what rightfully belongs to him and in the process make our people back home proud.”
Mikhalkhin has 19 wins from 20 fights.
