Quit smoking with hypnosis
Effects can be permanent if done properly
We have seen hypnosis shows on television, and they are usually very funny. Volunteers would be put under hypnosis and made to think, for example, that they are certain animals or a really famous person, with hilarious results.
While most people have come to know hypnosis for those caricature elements, did you know that hypnosis can apparently help you to lose weight or even quit smoking?
Romi Vidmar is a qualified hypnotherapist who operates the Northcliff Hypnotherapy Centre, and he says that hypnosis can be the answer to some of life’s obstacles that you have been struggling to overcome.
“The human mind comprises a conscious and an unconscious component. It is the subconscious mind that is the seat of personal behaviour and thought patterns that become habitual and cause behavioural and emotional consequences, typically for the rest of one’s life.
“Considerable peer-reviewed scientific research around the world has confirmed the benefits of hypnotherapy as a natural nondrug way to permanently resolve issues that involve the subconscious mind,” he says.
Vidmar explains that hypnosis works in two ways:
Firstly, the hypnotherapist locates the event which triggers the negative behaviour pattern and changes the individual’s perception of that event; thus eliminating it as a problem source.
Once this is accomplished, the individual can eliminate the desire for comfort eating, smoking, drug abuse, etc.
Secondly, the hypnotherapist can help the person to project a future vision with positive new goals and can help to realise those with positive compounding affirmations.
Vidmar says that when it comes to weight loss and quitting smoking, hypnotherapy has proven to be very effective.
“In the case of weight management the subconscious mind is programmed to adopt a healthier lifestyle. This means eating the right type of healthy food, eating portions of the right size, avoiding junk foods and the sweet snacky foods and doing moderate but regular physical activity.
“This will then become a deeply rooted habit driven from the subconscious mind. As a by-product of that, people will shed any excess weight quite gently but permanently.
“When it comes to smoking, hypnotherapy recognises it just as a habit. Most clients quit after one session, but reinforcement, again, plays a role in ensuring that relapse does not occur in future due to, perhaps, some emotional event.”
Vidmar says the effects of hypnotherapy are permanent, if performed professionally. According to him, each hypnotherapy session is accompanied by a hypnotherapy recording to be used at home after the first session.
“The success rate we find on a first consultation in all cases of hypnotherapy is about 80%,” he claims.
The current charge at the Northcliff Hypnotherapy Centre is R800 for a one-hour session and this includes a free CD.
