Conscience says no to the mafia

-

The letter by Lugisani Mutimani in Sowetan on Friday, “ANC MPs must not fall into opposition trap” , refers.

Supposedly, if the vote of no confidence is secret, you conclude that those who follow their conscience will have fallen into the trap of the opposition. But, should all ANC MPs vote against the motion, what will happen in 2019?

You sound much like Gwede Mantashe who thinks voting with the opposition would be a betrayal of the highest order. It is not surprising because Mantashe is a politician, not a statesman.

It is not necessarily voting with the opposition that is at issue, rather what is more important than the survival of an individual and his cronies is the rescue of the Republic from plunder and subsequent destruction.

A question for Mantashe and those who think like him would be: Is this the betrayal against the ANC of old and the country, or is it against the mafia in the ANC?

Firstly, humans have been blessed with the gift of a conscience to guide us; it is based on choice to follow it or suppress it, in most cases at one’s peril.

Secondly, whatever the outcome of the vote, the opposition holds the trump card: should the mafia survive, we may kiss the 2019 elections goodbye, and should it favour a vote of no confidence, the opposition will claim victory. But, the Republic shall have been saved and we will have a new leadership of the ANC by men and women of integrity as we have always known it.
