ANOTHER GOOD DAY FOR TRAINER SEAN TARRY

Three winners in a row at Turffontein

-

With the main focus of South African racing moving to Kwa-Zulu Natal it was pretty much bread and butter racing and with a large string behind him trainer Sean Tarry can step out some maiden winners and that he did, winning races 2 to 4 at Turffontein on Saturday. Punters were happy and grateful that he did as both Code Writer who won Race 2 and Purple Diamond who won Race 3 were deep in the red and short priced winners. Code Writer was a bit scary as she took her time to find her best stride but took up the running in the final 200m of the race and drew away to win easily. This Jay Peg filly may now be looking for further. In contrast Purple Diamond was always well placed and never really looked in any danger as this Var colt shot clear of his field 300m out to win very easily. The Geoff Woodruff-trained Miss Bulsara was backed to win Race 4 but jockey Chase Maujean had her well back in the early stages and although she ran on nicely she could only get up for fourth. In the next race we saw controversy. In a tight finish Suprise Move beat Kings Creek and Spice Queen. It was a bumping match in the closing stages as all three runners came together. There were objections against the winner by both the connections of the second place and third place runners. The objection was overruled. The upset of the meeting arrived in Race 5 as Arte paying R35 on the tote drew away from the favourite Silken in the closing stages to win comfortably. It was a bit surprising to more than a few punters when the Corne Spies trained Favour’s Pride was beaten at Flamingo Park recently but she put that behind her with a nice win. The confidence boost of this win could get her to win a few more races. The Woodruff-trained Alexa had not win since January 2016 but she bounced back to form with a nice win over some decent fillies and could be followed. Rain has played havoc with local racing recently but Greyville managed to run the important Grade 2 Betting World 1900m on Friday. This important lead to the Vodacom Durban July is always very competitive as runners are looking to qualify for the big race. Ten Gun Salute has always shown he has ability and he bounced back to his very best with an impressive win over Tilbury Fort. It’s My Turn was third with Mr Winsome fourth.
