Naafer and Janoobi look decent De Kock runners

- RACING EDITOR

IT IS a big day of racing at Scottsville tomorrow with four Grade 1s up for grabs and there is a chance that two could go the way of Trainer Sean Tarry and the other two to Mike de Kock.

The first of the Grade 1 races is the Allan Robertson Championship for fillies over 1200m and the current favourite is the Tarry-trained Green Plains. This Gimmethegreenlight filly has won three of her four starts.

Green Plains won on debut over 800m in December. She returned in February and was runner-up to Daring Diva who also competes in this race.

It is possible Green Plains needed that comeback run as she followed up with two nice wins. She beat Celestina easily and Winter’s Forge both over 1 100m at Turffontein.

In her latest start rival Daring Diva was 2.25 lengths behind her and with the weights being unchanged there is no real reason to suggest the tables will be turned between them.

Possible dangers are Call To Account who may have just needed her last start, debut winner Crymeariver and Neptune’s Rain who looks a promising filly.

The Mike de Kocktrained and Anthony Delpech-ridden Naafer found stable companion Mustaaqeem four lengths too good last time but that rival looks like a champion and it will not be too much of a surprise is Naafer proves too good for his opposition in The Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion over 1 200m.

Naafer also found Wonderwall too good on debut but was impressive when winning his second start and turned the tables on Wonderwall last time out.

Probably dangers are Sand And Sea and Varallo.

Sand And Sea quickened nicely when winning over the course and distance this month.

Varallo is talented but has a mind of his own.

Carry On Alice was expected to win The Computaform Sprint last month but could not match the finishing speed of Rafeef but could get back to winning ways and take the Grade 1 South African Fillies Sprint over 1 200m.

It will not be easy for her though as all of Real Princess, Live Life, Just Sensual and The Secret Is Out hold winning chances.

Janoobi pulled very hard when winning the Guineas at Greyville from start-to-finish a couple of weeks ago so it could prove to be a shrewd move from the De Kock yard to run him over this shorter distance and he could be the value bet in the Tsogo Sun Sprint at his current price.
