Multi-award winning music star Tresor Riziki is taking his musical treasure to a global audience. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) the star, whose name means treasure, released his much-awaited album titled The Beautiful Madness last Friday.

“The title of the album comes from my previous album. After the release of that album everything went very quick for me,” says Tresor.

“I was busy touring, doing gigs and travelling around. I didn’t have time to catch my breath. So, when I was busy writing this album I thought about this whole madness that was happening around me. It was all so hectic but very beautiful at the same time.” Tresor says his story of rags to riches does not end here, as he plans on going big abroad with The Beautiful Madness. The album has been released globally last week Friday.

“For me the dream has always been big. When my name gets mentioned a couple of years from now, I want to be among legends who changed things in the African music sphere, like your mama Mirriam Makebas.”

The talented lyricists made headlines with his first album as he shared the story of how he walked through the DRC across Africa to find a home and settle in South Africa after his parents were killed in a war in that country. Tresor arrived in South Africa in 2007. The French-speaking lanky star says on his arrival in South Africa he started out by working as a car guard at malls. His 16-track album has broken the internet as Tresor dropped singles one by one on radio last week. “I am just excited for the album to be released. It’s good music and we have shot a colourful music video… I have Mahotella Queens on the album amongst others.”

His latest single titled Remedy, whose video was shot for more than two days in Cape Town, has been gaining momentum throughout the week on social media, with many people hailing Tresor as a music genius.

“The concept of the video is inspired by 80s disco pop colours and fashion.

“We wanted to bring a hip African feel to it, so we added the pantsula dancers who made the video magical,” he says.

Tresor has previously worked with AKA, Berita and Zahara among other local musicians. madibogoj@sowetan.co.za
