The late Glenrose Mtukwane was a humble, dedicated and disciplined cadre of the ANC who executed the organisational tasks with pride.

This is the view of ANC’s Jongilanga Mzinyathi Branch Ward 31 in Orlando East. Mtukwane died last Wednesday after a short illness. She was 66 years. Mtukwane had married the late Joshua Mpangele in 1972.

“Comrade Glenrose Mtukwane was a strong supporter of ANC. She had supported the organisation with all her heart, mind and soul until she decided to become a full-time member of the organisation,” said branch secretary Kedisaletse Ngeleza.

MamGlen, as she was affectionately known in ANC circles, joined the organisation in 2006 and served in the branch’s women’s league as well as veterans’ structures.

Mtukwane took over as branch secretary of the veterans last year.

She was one of the driving forces in the organisation’s preparations for local government elections in August.

“The ANC won the local government election in our ward because of dedicated and hardworking comrades like MamGlen.

“She was a mother, sister, granny, skeem [friend] and comrade to all the members of the branch.

“She will be dearly missed by comrades from the branch, zonal and regional structures.”

Mtukwane was born in 1950 and the first born of Rhinnie Mtukwane. She started school at Zakheni Primary and proceeded to All Saint High School, both in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.

She worked as a sales assistant for different companies in Johannesburg. These included Past Centre Corobrik, Lester Donovan and IDG before she retired in 2004.

Mtukwane was also a staunch member of the Presbyterian Church and board member of Tlhokomelo Home Based Care, a nonprofit organisation in Orlando East.

She was also involved in other community projects such as school gardening to help feed the needy.

Mtukwane left her family with a verse in Isaiah 55 verse 6-7: “Seek the Lord while you can find Him, call on Him now while He is near.

“Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong.”

She is survived by two daughters Nontando and Nombulelo, two sisters, three brothers, seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. She will be buried tomorrow at Avalon Cemetery. The service is at the Presbyterian Church in Orlando East from 8am and the cortege leaves at 10am.
