Amateur side KaMhlushwa Real Madrid are edging closer to their dream of playing in the SAB League.

This after the Mpumalangabased outfit were crowned champions of the Selati Cup at KaMhlushwa Stadium, Nelspruit, at the weekend.

Enjoying home ground advantage, Madrid outshone Buffelspruit Home Defenders 2-0 to take home the trophy, as well as the R100 000 cash prize, medals and soccer kit.

With this feat, homeboy and captain of Madrid, Sanele Sindane, was hopeful the prize money would assist the club to reach greater heights.

Playing in the SAB League is Madrid’s prime objective.

“The money will help the club grow because we want to play in the SAB League [SA’s fourth tier] in future.

“We do not have the best of facilities here, but with this money it is now possible to upgrade the place we train at,’’ a chuffed Sindane told Sowetan yesterday.

The 21-year-old defender also hopes there were scouts watching the final.

Sindane is confident he can do well at professional level should the opportunity present it self.

“I played well. I hope people [scouts] saw me. I trust my abilities. I am capable of playing in the Absa Premiership.

“My dream is to play professional football one day,’’ added the defender who aspires to emulate his idol, Kaizer Chiefs defender Mulomowandawu Mathoho.

Runners-up Home Defenders received R60 000 cash, third-placed Schulzendal Eleven Experience took home R35 000 and KaMhlushwa City Stars pocketed R25 000 for being placed fourth.
