Wome holds inside info for Bucs

Striker is privy to Baxter’s tactics

There’ll be a change in dressing room for Dove Wome in this year’s Nedbank Cup final.

Last year he was part of the celebrations as SuperSport United lifted the trophy in Polokwane. Just over a year after that feat, Wome finds himself in a Pirates locker room in a desperate need of some joy having come from a nightmarish season.

The Togolese international does not only bring goals and an ability to create opportunities for teammates, but he’s got a hint of how his former coach Stuart Baxter is preparing for the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (8.15pm).

The information he provides will come in handy as Pirates look to win their first major trophy since May 2014.

“I was there at SuperSport and I know how we prepared for the final. We knew Pirates would have the ball, so we needed to fight till the end.

“We did that and won the cup. I think they may do that again,” said Wome, who played 87 minutes in last year’s final.

Wome has scored four goals, including one in the Nedbank Cup, since joining the Buccaneers in January on loan.

It’s been a difficult six months for the player being at Pirates, but he’s happy playing for the Soweto giants and he’s embraced the pressure that comes with it.

“I love to play under pressure. Even though this team was struggling, I was happy to join them in January.

“We have been through difficult times, but I believe we will be happy soon. We need to focus on this cup and then we can fix a lot of things for next season,” said Wome.

Meanwhile, Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret, was at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night to spy on SuperSport who played to a goalless against international opponents TP Mazembe of DRC in the CAF Confederation Cup.
