Joan Ramagoshi caught in SABC cash row

SABC blames ‘four disgruntled people’ for the confusion

Joan Ramagoshi has fought back against talk that she took money from the SABC and ran.

The former Miss SA was roped in by the SABC to help polish up the act of their sport presenters ahead of the Afcon soccer spectacle in January and was apparently paid about R1.2-million, an amount which both parties would not confirm or deny.

Ramagoshi has been running classes in grooming, etiquette, body language and image for corporates for the past seven years.

While reticent to confirm the amount, Ramagoshi confirmed that she had a year-onyear contract for between January 2017 and January 2018.

“That is not true. I worked with some of the presenters and I’m still waiting for more. I take pride in what I do and I believe in working hard for the money I earn. I’m professional and I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that I didn’t deliver,” Ramagoshi said.

She added that some of her students were Mpho Maboi, Josta Dladla, Portia Modise, and Esrom Nyandoro.

However, Maboi denied being part of the training.

Ramagoshi said her training on the dos and don’ts of television was to boost women’s selfbelief and confidence as they work in a male-dominated space and they should stand their ground.

With men it was mostly on professionalism, image and personality. “The SABC want- ed to bring up the standard of presenting and I was brought in to help.”

She said the money was paid as a lump sum and she would continue training presenters when the broadcaster makes them available.

Ramagoshi said that her contract was not over yet. “There is still six months to go. I would understand if the time was up and I hadn’t done the work, but there is still some time to go.”

Kaizer Kganyago blamed “four people” whose contracts with the public broadcaster come to an end today and were peddling wrong information.

“I know where you are getting this. You are getting it from these four people whose contracts end tomorrow (today). They are disgruntled and are trying to peddle wrong things.”

“This contract is for training new presenters because we wanted new talent for Afcon. We were bringing in the likes of Josta Dladla and Portia Modise.”

“With this contract they get paid for work that has been done. They do training and then invoice us.”
