Ayanda to host Durban July race

Red is the ‘Colour of Magic’ at this year’s horse-racing event

Top Billing presenter Ayanda Thabethe will host the special Durban July TV coverage on SABC 3 tomorrow at 2pm.

The pressure is on Thabethe as she will be following in the footsteps of Bonang Matheba, who hosted the past two races.

The show will be broadcast live from the Greyville Racecourse in Durban.

“It’s a lot of pressure. I’m a little nervous, but also excited. People who are unable to attend will be counting on us to give all the juicy details, ranging from the horse-racing action to the fashion. My focus will be on fashion and talking to people,” Thabethe said.

The theme this year is ‘The Colour of Magic’, with fashionistas urged to wear red as their colour of magic. Thabethe will be dressed by local designer Biji La Maison.

“There are no fashion don’ts when it comes to the Durban July. It’s very flamboyant and fun. The important thing is be confident and have fun.”

Mabala Noise will stage the biggest pre-party tonight with US artists Robin Thicke and French Montana headlining the music concert. Local artists Nasty C, Cassper Nyovest, Du Boiz, AKA, Kwesta and Riky Rick will be supporting acts.

As for the after-parties, Tbo Touch, Matheba and David Tlale will host the ultimate yacht experience with Courvoisier on Sunday afternoon.
