Anything besides win will end Stars’ campaign

- By Tshepang Mailwane

Platinum Stars’ Namibian defender Willem Mwedihanga has called on teammates not to hold back as they look to finish the CAF Confederation Cup group campaign on a high.

Stars go into the final two games in group B without a win, but they are desperate to change that in the upcoming matches against Algeria’s MC Alger and Mbabane Swallows from Swaziland.

Dikwena meet Alger at Stade du 5 Juillet tonight (10pm), knowing that anything less than a victory will end their slim chance of qualifying for the knockout phase. They have two points, six behind the leaders Alger.

“We should not reserve ourselves. We should fight to get maximum points in our final two games and see where it leads us,” said Mwedihanga.

“We drew 1-1 with them [Alger] in our first group game. We know what’s coming. There’s no excuse for us not to pick up maximum points.”

Stars have suffered heavy defeats away from home. Swallows hammered them 42 and Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien gave them a 3-0 hiding.

They would have to dig deep tonight if they want to get that first victory .

“Away games are a different ball game compared to the home games. We’ve learnt that we should not allow opponents to roam around freely and play their normal game because it will be difficult to adapt,” said defender Mwedihanga.

“At least we have learnt something from all these games that we have played away from home.”
