After working together at Maritzburg United three years ago, Bhongolethu Jayiya and Steve Komphela have reunited at Kaizer Chiefs.

Jayiya signed a three-year deal with Amakhosi, the club confirmed yesterday. Upon his arrival at Naturena, the 27-year-old winger has vowed to hit the ground running and aid the Soweto giants in their bid to bring back the good old days. “I heard about the interest from Chiefs towards the end of my contract with City last season. This is a childhood dream becoming a reality. I am excited about this move and just want to get on to the pitch and let my feet do the talking. I am here to assist to bring back the glory days,” Jayiya told his new team’s website.

The former Bidvest Wits man is Chiefs’ third signing this transfer window. The club have already brought in another winger, Philani Zulu, from Maritzburg and Zimbabwean defender Teenage Radebe from Chicken Inn.

In the just-concluded season, Jayiya registered six goals in all competitions for City.

One of his best games was when he scored a hat-trick in City’s 4-1 Absa Premiership league win against Chippa United in April.

“We have been in talks with Bhongo over the last two weeks and finally signed him [yesterday],” Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung said.

“We discussed with Cape Town City and they gave us a good report about his attitude. We also looked at the kind of system we are playing, with his agility and experience, he will come handy.”

In other transfer activity, Pretoria-based SuperSport United announced yesterday that the club and New Zealand international defender Michael Boxall have parted ways with immediate effect.
