B Twenty One runs well for Delpech

A change of environment seems to have done Wild Horizon the world of good he is expected to win Race 3 over 2400m at the Vaal today.

Wild Horizon has won two of his last three starts and was full of running when beating Scotland by 2.25 lengths in April and was 2.50 lengths superior to Henry Higgins in his latest start.

In between those two wins the four-year-old was touched off by Let It Rain, who is a useful performer. The handicapper was clearly impressed with those two wins and he has penalised Wild Horizon 12 points so it will not be easy for him this time. But this distance does suit and he will be hard to beat.

The two runners most likely to pose a threat are Lee’s Pick and B Twenty One. Lee’s Pick indicated more wins could be on their way as he was a promising runner-up behind Amsterdam last time out and has also looked better the further he has gone.

If the formbook is to believed then B Twenty One only runs for jockey Anthony Delpech as he was aboard her in her last three wins. She did, however, find it a lot tougher when pitted against the boys last time out and finished 5.95 lengths behind Let It Rain.

Probably the best bet on this card is in Race 2 where the Alec Lairdtrained Altitude looks ready to break out of the maiden ranks. This Captain All filly looked much improved when runner-up behind Barbie Doll over 1600m last time out so the 1700m of race could be ideal. No 1 draw is also a huge advantage over this particular course and distance and that adds to her value.

Drawn next to her in gate No 2 is her biggest danger, Emmeline. One can ignore the last start of Stuart Pettigrew’s filly and she is better judged on her previous start when touched off by Half A Bar.

Generoso was 3.75 lengths behind Altitude when they last met so will need to improve if she is to win but could still be third best in this weak field.

One other runner worth looking at is Madame Secretary in Race 8. This Mike Azzie-trained filly always gives of her best and is a course-anddistance winner. Jockey Lyle Hewitson has returned from an injury in fine form and will give her every chance of winning.
