Two new documentaries will shed new light on the life, times and legacy of the late Princess Diana when they are broadcast in South Africa next month.

ITV will be showing the programmes to mark the 20th commemoration of the death of Diana who perished in a car crash in Paris in 1997, eliciting a backlash on paparazzi photographers and tabloids.

Diana and the Paparazzi takes the viewer back 25 years when Diana was the most sought-after and photographed woman on earth. Media houses paid big money to land exclusive pictures that would spike their circulation.

The doccie explores her “love-hate” relationship with the snappers and close relations and acquaintances such as her bodyguard and press spokesman. Her favourite journalists reveal how Diana used the press for her own ends so that her pictures told a story and cemented her brand as “The People’s Princess”. They tell stories about Diana that will be heard for the first time, including some of her behind-thescenes iconic images.

Diana: The Day the World Cried will air within 24 hours of its UK premiere.

It revisits the day of her funeral - as told by people who were there, such as the funeral’s chief architect Sir Malcolm Ross, who had just six days to plan the whole event.

Many of the interviewees, such as chief pallbearer Captain Richard Williams, are talking exclusively for the first time.
