PALLADIUM CAN BOWL A DOOSRA

Laird’s charge can surprise at Greyville today

- RACING EDITOR

The Charles Lairdtrained Palladium clearly has ability and one can probably ignore his last two runs and he can upset in the lucky last race at Greyville over 1400m on the Polytrack today.

This Silvano gelding showed nice form earlier this year which included running only 2.10 behind the very unlucky Vodacom Durban July runner Horizon over 1400m on the Greyville turf in April.

Jockey Warren Kennedy will need to overcome the wide draw of stall No 10.

The two likely dangers are the course and distance winners Captain Of Rock and Friend Request.

Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren is a man who can be followed when raiding KwaZulu-Natal and his charge Doosra had no luck at all in running earlier this month.

The Captain All gelding has cracked pole position draw and it is noteworthy that jockey Gavin Lerena is coming to Greyville for this race meeting.

The biggest threat to Doosra could come from Joey Ramsden’s Macduff who has tended to be unreliable but was tried with Blinkers last time and that proved successful.

Vodacom Durban July winning rider Bernard Fayd’Herbe retains the ride on Macduff.

Earlier on this card there are three maidens who could get out of their divisions: Borya in Race 1, Honorary in Race 3 and Roy Had Enough in Race 4 all have the form in the book to win.

Borya was only 2.10 lengths behind decent Trojan Harbour over this distance and had fair previous form so could give Kennedy a perfect start for the day.

Trainer Dennis Bosch and jockey Anthony Delpech make a formidable combination when teaming up and they do so with the Mogok filly Honorary.

This filly could defy her wide draw and prove a bit better than her rivals over a course and distance of 1200m on the Polytrack that will suit.

Roy Had Enough has proven to be a frustration for trainer Frank Robinson but is clearly better than maiden class and could prove to be the best bet on this card.
