Having plugged the gap as entertainment of choice during off-season, ex-Bafana star Maimane Phiri’s community tournament ends in Alexandra on Sunday.

The MAP Games have been trending for the past four weeks thanks to their crowd-pulling power that saw among others, the likes of Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela and his goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, making a turn in Alex.

More prominent people are expected to descend on the sprawling township north of Joburg for the semifinals tomorrow and the final on Sunday, both events taking place at Alexandra Stadium.

Phiri, 43, has put together a team of friends who will play against a celebrity side on Sunday (3pm).

Those expected to grace the occasion are former Chiefs midfield darlings Jabu Mahlangu and Doctor Khumalo.

The game will precede the men’s final where the champions will walk away withawhoppingR160 000.

“It has been an amazing month for the 1MAP Games and we can only thank the community for their support. It is all about giving back to the community,” said Phiri, adding that there will be a R20 entry fee tomorrow and Sunday.

“The money goes back to the community as we donate it to charity organisations.”

The tournament attracted 149 teams from under-13 to the masters.

Sunday’s finals will feature the masters, ladies and the men’s open.

This will conclude what has been a good week for Phiri, who witnessed a post-career highlight when his protege Lebogang Manyama was voted the best of the best at the PSL awards on Monday.
