Celtic give vote of confidence to Seema
Assistant coach eager to learn more
It is usual for foreign coaches to come with their own assistant coaches and force PSL clubs to part ways with those they found on the job, but Bloemfontein Celtic are taking a different route.
Recently, Platinum Stars’ coach Peter Butler opted against keeping long-serving assistant coach Willem Jackson. After the arrival of Serbian coach Veselin Jelusic at Siwelele, it would not have been a surprise to see assistant coach Lehlohonolo Seema leaving, but the club opted to keep him on the job.
“I am not leaving the club. I cannot wait to work with Jelusic when the season starts,” said Seema yesterday.
“From what I have seen, he is a good coach who has a winning mentality. I think it was a decision taken by him and the management to let me stay on and assist him.
“I am ready to help him [Jelusic] where he needs help because I have been here for a long time and I know players well. As his assistant, I hope that I will learn a lot from him and improve the team going forward,” he added.
After the Free State-based outfit fired Serame Letsoaka in October, Seema took charge of the team and they finished 12th on the log.
The 37-year-old thinks they have a good chance of doing better in the new season.
“We will be a better team this season because we have learnt from last season’s failures and mistakes. We are busy assessing players we want to sign. It is very important for us to strengthen the squad so that we will be counted among the best teams.”
