Those baying for the blood of Gatlin are barking up wrong tree
It’s now history that 100m record holder Usain Bolt bowed out of athletics after coming third at the IAAF World Championships in London on Saturday.
The English media are seeing red because the winner on the day was American sprinter Justin Gatlin, who has served two bans for doping. I’m sure the Jamaican media are equally as mad in Bolt’s home country.
Gatlin has been booed virtually in every meet he has participated in, but those who are booing him are barking up the wrong tree. Gatlin served both his bans and was given the green light to come back.
The blame should be put on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Gatlin should have been banned for life after the second doping. What gets the goat of many Bolt fans is the idea that performance enhancers that Gatlin took could still be aiding him, something that is very possible.
The IAAF is a joke. Right now, there are many athletes competing for countries they hardly set foot in.
Many Kenyan athletes who switched allegiance to other countries like Turkey, Qatar and Bahrain still permanently reside in Kenya.
The IAAF has a responsibility to protect vulnerable countries. It also has a responsibility to protect clean athletes from the likes of Gatlin. Richardson Mzaidume
