No swan song for Duduzane’s father

- Vera

Slippery as ever

It was a week to remember in more ways than one.

Topping the news, Namba Wan proved that he is the ultimate phunyuka bemphethe. We must all resign ourselves to 18 more months of surely the worst president ever.

Vera is just worried that he might be emboldened to do even worse in what remains of his presidency.

Not in her own words

How do you tell when words have been forced down someone’s throat? Vera reckons the telltale signs are something like what happened with Gogo Baleka this week. She had to announce that the vote would be in secret and, to Vera, she sounded as if it was all news to her as she read further down the page that she literally choked on the words.

To each their own

Noticed how apt the saying “the more things change, the more they stay the same” rang true a few hours before the vote?

Missing in action were the paler side of the DA when the masses marched on parliament. There was poor Mmusi trying to work the crowd alongside Juju.

But where were the John Steenhuisens of this world and the others?

Is it because that part of politicking is best left to the natives, known for dancing to the baas’s tune?

No contest

Great speaker, this Mmusi, but Vera is not sure about his singing and dancing – Namba Wan would eat him for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper all in one go if he dared challenge the

Nkandla Crooner.

It explains why

Juju never leads his crowd in song, leaving it to the People’s Bae. Not that Vera is complaining, I would have that one any time, anywhere. His great rendition of Azania just melts Vera’s heart.

Generally speaking...

Vera caught up with General Bantu Holomisa a few times on the wireless, both pre- and post- the vote, sounding as confident as ever, even in defeat.

Off the mark

He was in his element during the debate, positioning himself as a number 6 – in football analogy – claiming he had laid a perfect pass for MPs to score, banishing Namba Wan to the firepool. “Hambani ke ni yo kora ” he urged the MPs, as they prepared to cast their ballots. Trouble is, our Doctor Khumalo was relying too much on defensive strikers such as Badakiwe, who is in the mould of that Gabuza fellow, the one of the 6-1, 6-0, 4-1 team, to score for him.

Dr Colonel

Vera is clueless about things military and does not understand why the Bantustan general still goes by the title, decades after leaving the military. Is this how it’s done?

If so, will Bantu please advise that fellow who likes to go by the honorific Dr to please use the army rank he was honoured with instead?

That way we will be also teaching kids that not every Tom, Dick, Harry and Irvin can just wake up and be called doctor.

More equal than others

Any doubts that we are living in Animal Farm must surely be banished by the kids’ gloves with which the new poster boy of abuse has been treated. Yet there was Namba Wan making noises about getting tough on abusers at a ANC Women’s League campaign, dressed up as an official Women’s Day celebration. They have no shame these lot.
