The family of former Limpopo Youth Commissioner Rodgers Tshivhase has lost a pillar of strength following his death after a short illness.
Born Ndifelani Lawrence Rodgers Tshivhase in 1971, he started school at Khalavha Primary School in Venda in the late 1970s and proceeded to Jack Lavhengwa Secondary School, where he matriculated.
In 1992, Tshivhase enrolled for a degree in political studies at University of Venda but could not complete it due to lack of funds and his political activism.
Tshivhase first worked at the ANC’s constituency office at Sendedza Complex in Siloam, Nzhelele, in 1998, before he was sent to Makhado municipality in 2001.
In 2002, Tshivhase joined the provincial department of health as chief community liaison officer at Siloam Hospital. He was chairman of the Limpopo Youth Commission from 2004 until 2009.
In 2011 he was deployed as a proportional representation councillor in the Thulamela municipality, which seconded him to Vhembe district as a part-time councillor.
At the time of his death, he was deputy chairman of the ANC in the Thulamela sub-region and chief whip of the Thulamela municipality.
He was also the acting chief of Khalavha village. His half brother, Floyd Tshivhase, described him as a “pillar of strength” in the family. “My brother was a people’s person and selfless cadre,” Floyd said.
He leaves behind three brothers, four sisters and an aunt.
