Winning is what matters

Dalley is best bet of the weekend

- By Racing Editor

The last few weekends have been very busy with racing and finding winner was not easy. Hopefully now with a much quieter time and only three local race meetings the winner will flow. At Turffontein tomorrow there look to be two banker bets and another couple of Eachway chances. Dalley in Race 7 and Money Matters in Race 9 are the bankers and earlier on the card Varsity Princess in Race 2 and Queen Laurie in Race 3 look possible winners. The Ideal World-mare Dalley has had a very good year, winning three of her last six starts and could still have more wins in her. Although Dalley has picked up 11 points in total for her last two wins which were over 2400m at the Vaal she comes into this race better weighted with Cranberry Crush who she beat by 2.25 lengths. Dalley has gone up from the 58kg she carried to 60kg and Cranberry Crush went from 52kg to 56 kg because she won in the interim. Based on that weight turnover the biggest threat is likely to come from somewhere else and Bondiblu could be it. Bondiblu is often slow away but is ca-pable of strong finish when in the mood and her recent form is pretty good. Son Adam Azzie has become joint trainer with father Mike and they have already been successful this season and Money Matters could bring them another winner’s cheque. This Querari colt has improved with every run and should be well suited to the 1800m he tries for the first time. A wide draw could be a problem though for jockey Karl Zechner. Varsity Princess won well on debut up a straight course and was not as good when trying the turn in her second start. Back up the straight she could overturn the form on a few who ran ahead of her last time. Grant Maroun’s Queen Laurie has run some decent races in much better fields than she contests tomorrow and if return-ing fir from a couple of months off she could pop up and win Race 3. At Fairview today Enbharr in Race 3 should run a better race than he did last time out.
