Defiant Makhosi may face more charges
MP questions moral pulse of the party following vote of no confidence in JZ
The fallout between the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal and outspoken party MP Makhosi Khoza over President Jacob Zuma continued yesterday, with the ANC giving its strongest indication she may face more charges. Yesterday, Khoza went on the offensive against Zuma once again, accusing the ANC of siding with the president who has consistently failed to uphold, defend and respect the constitution.
“In the recent past it has become evident that not only will most of the ANC choose to defend an immoral leader, they will also choose to attack those who side with morality and honesty,” Khoza wrote on her Facebook wall.
She wrote that the ANC was a shadow of its former self. “The majority chose to continue the reign of a kleptocracy that has brought our once mighty and revered ANC to its knees.”
ANC KwaZulu-Natal spokesman Mdumiseni Ntuli hit back, saying: “It’s despicable that an ANC MP can speak like that in public.” Asked if Khoza could face more charges, Ntuli said: “Whether this becomes a material fact on her case, that is a
matter to be considered by the provincial disciplinary committee.”
Khoza said last week’s motion of no confidence which saw Zuma narrowly escape the chop will go down in history as the day where the ANC’s moral pulse was all but extinguished.
“Those of us who supported the vote of no confidence have been accused of disloyalty.
“As I prepare to face my disciplinary process, it remains clear to me that the greatest disloyalty possible by a member of the ANC is abandoning the people who elected us to power.
“The ANC’s application of disciplinary action [is] not just inconsistent, it appears to be largely informed by how badly you’ve annoyed the most powerful.
“These are the kinds of things that have weakened and continue to weaken our movement,” said Khoza.
Last month, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal put charges before Khoza for bringing the governing party into disrepute with her remarks.
