Men monopoly capital the enemy

-

During this Women’s Month, I want to challenge the current narration of white monopoly capital as the enemy of our national democratic revolution.

My understanding is that women constitute 51% of the South African population, which makes them the majority in our country.

Now, one of the questions I have been asking myself is why the current discourse on white monopoly capital is so gender neutral.

Then I quickly realised that the main sponsors for this white monopoly capital claims are men who stand to benefit from characterising our enemy along colour lines.

It is always safe for men to use race spectacles to view every social and economic problem as this serves to divert attention from their domination of the economy.

Let us look at who has benefitted the most in the past 23 years from the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policies.

Women are the majority but how many of them do we identify as the normal culprits who have benefitted from the big BEE deals in this country?

Instead of us talking about white monopoly capital as our enemy, we should focus on men monopoly capital and perhaps on how men will be made to compensate women for all the past discriminatory practices that have benefitted them, to the exclusion of women. Lazola Vabaza, Pretoria
