Marmook is one for the book

Mike de Kock’s runner could have many wins

- By Racing Editor

The Medaglia D’Oro colt Marmook was heavily backed on debut but proved to be a tough ride and trailed in a well beaten seventh and 9.10 lengths behind Devil’s Peak.

That was over 1400m and the three-year-old colt did do much in the preliminaries and in the race so it was decided to drop the colt in distance for it’s next start and this did the trick.

Marmook was tucked off the early gallop but quickened up nicely when given his head and he proved a bit too good for Darkest Hour.

Marmook meets some tough hard-knockers but with none of his rivals going to holllywood it is more probable than possible that Marmook will prove better than these rivals in the future.

For the punters sake it would be nice if it is today at the Vaal that he proves that theory.

The Tapit gelding Tapenzee looks the likely winner of the opening race as his last two runs suggests that he is not far off from winning his first race.

Tapenzee does meet a very weak field and the only possible danger is the de Kock runner Mellon who is likely to have come on markedly from his debut.

De Kock could also be sending out the winner of Race 2 in the form of the debutante filly Quick Glimpse.

This nicely bred Australian filly is the only carded runner for jockey Anthony Delpech so that is well worth noting.

Punters need bankers for the exotics and Captain Chips is the possible horse in Race 7.

The Alec Laird runners are doing well and Captain Chips is in good form.

The four-year-old won well over the course and distance (1400m)in his penultimate start and gave Plum British too much start last time and was only beaten 2. Lengths.

Jockey Randal Simons replaces JP van der Merwe and that can make all the difference as Simons is riding at the top of his game.

El Bombero was only 1.50 lengths behind Captain chips when they last met so could finish somewhere in the money.
