EFF MP and national spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has set his sights on turning his recently completed PhD in politics thesis into a readable and accessible book.

Wits University confirmed to Ndlozi on Friday that it would confer a Doctor of Philosophy in political studies degree on him in December.

Ndlozi, who completed his Master’s degree in political sociology at Wits in 2010, told Sowetan that he would focus on publishing his thesis.

“I will begin a conversation with publishers after meeting my supervisor,” he said, adding that he did not know when the book would be published.

Ndlozi’s PhD thesis was on the psychological shift in youth in the Vaal Triangle during the 1970s and 1980s.

The 32-year-old’s Master’s thesis is titled Trade Unionism in South Africa: A critical assessment of trade union strategy: The case of the Chemical Workers Industrial Union, 1987-1999.

Ndlozi’s successful completion of his PhD follows the graduation of EFF leader Julius Malema, obtaining a BA degree in political leadership and citizenship through the University of SA (Unisa) last year. Malema is completing his BA honours in philosophy through Unisa.

In December 2014, EFF deputy president and chief whip Floyd Shivambu completed his Master’s degree in political studies.

Shivambu’s master’s thesis was titled South Africa’s Negotiated Transition From Apartheid to an Inclusive Political System: What Capitalist Interests Reigned Supreme?

Ndlozi said the party’s secretary-general, Godrich Gardee, who has a higher national diploma in accounting and auditing, is studying law through Unisa. “A couple of our leaders are enrolled in different universities studying parttime,” he said.
