Mosimane still chases Brockie
Downs hope deal is done by month end
The ball is now in SuperSport United chief executive Stan Matthews’s court as Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane refuses to give up the pursuit of striker Jeremy Brockie, with the number 10 jersey waiting for him at Chloorkop.
A blockbuster deal is being prepared behind the scenes, with Sundowns willing to smash the PSL record transfer fee of R10-million which they paid when acquiring Sibusiso Vilakazi from Wits last year.
The only obstacle remaining in the way is for Matthews to give the green light after weeks of heavy courting.
Last week Brockie, in an interview with Sowetan, stopped short of expressing his desire to join the CAF Champions League holders as he did not reject their approach out of hand. The New Zealander said it was up to the clubs to reach an agreement.
The 29-year-old sharpshooter had an unusually disappointing match for Matsatsantsa in the 2-0 loss against Sundowns in their Absa Premiership opener at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Strikes from Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane handed Sundowns the points to start their campaign of regaining the title on a positive note. “There are still a few days [until the transfer window closes] but we need to push. You have to push,” said Mosimane.
“Barca have to push to get [Phillipe] Coutinho and [Ousmane] Dembele – they don’t come easy.
“The marksman scores goals, he doesn’t dribble. We have enough dribblers, the marksman is there to shoot,” he added of Brockie.
Sundowns have also signed Thokozani Sekotlong to sharpen their strike force.
