Paez reminds me of Musona
United’s Furman to miss rematch
Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker has warned fellow PSL teams to beware as it is only a matter of time before he begins to click with teammate Gustavo Paez.
Parker feels Paez is of a similar quality to some of his former Amakhosi strike partners who included Knowledge Musona, Kingston Nkatha and Lehlohonolo Majoro.
Chiefs are desperate for their marksmen to start finding the target with the team having endured a barren run.
In their rematch against SuperSport United at the FNB Stadium tonight, the Soweto giants will need a comprehensive performance in order to prove that they have put their previous woes in the past.
Matsatsantsa edged Chiefs 1-0 in the MTN8 quarterfinal more than a week ago.
“I just wish that Paez can show South Africa what he is all about and hopefully get called up for his national team,” Parker said.
“We both run 10 to 11 kilometres per game. It reminds me of playing with Majoro, Nkhatha and Knowledge. If you have a strike partner sharing the responsibilities then we will definitely share goals.”
Last season, Parker and Paez contributed five goals apiece as Chiefs finished fourth with 50 points.
They stumbled in their first league game of this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bloem Celtic on Sunday. Coach Steve Komphela attributed the draw to the heavy pitch at Free State Stadium.
“I admitted that it was a poor result and it should not have been. But if reality comes across as an excuse, you still have to say it. There are no excuses, I take full responsibility and there is no explanation. But people go pay their money to go watch football and we get a stadium like that,” Komphela said.
Matsatsantsa will be without suspended captain Dean Furman this evening.
