Seete relives her last time with Dumi

‘He was in high spirits before death’

- By Emmanuel Tjiya

Rhythm City matriarch Thembi Seete says co-star Dumi Masilela was in top form and high spirits on set ahead of his tragic death. Masilela died after being shot in an attempted hijacking in Tembisa on August 2. Speaking to Sowetan, Seete detailed Masilela’s last days on the set of the popular e.tv soapie that celebrated its 10th birthday last month. She remembered their joyous make-up room banters and dancing around on set. “Dumi was the most amazing person ever. If you spent two seconds with him, you would never forget him. He celebrated God every second of his life.

“I remember one day he was busy doing make-up, his eyes were closed and he had these ‘Chinese eyes’. I kept touching his face and saying, ‘o motle motho’ [you are handsome],” he just smiled back and said, ‘you are beautiful too Sis Thembi.’

“I remember he was focused on this Rhythm City song we were doing, because his character was going to release a song and an album.

“He made me dance to the song, that’s when we were doing the Rhythm City 10th year celebration. He parked his car next to mine and we jammed. Little did I know I was dancing for him for the last time ...”

Sowetan caught up with Seete at the 2017 Inanda Africa Cup Polo Tournament. She looked elegant and dreamy in a white Jacques LaGrange gown. Seete was joined by Bonang Matheba in a back-less Orapeleng Modutle pantsuit, Pearl Thusi is a floral Casper Bosman dress and Dineo Moeketsi in a Quiteria & George mini-dress.
