‘Cop killer’ a self-styled anti-abuse campaigner

Man still in hiding after lover’s murder

A Limpopo man who is on the run after he allegedly murdered his girlfriend and her mother had been updating his Facebook timeline with messages supporting anti-women abuse campaigns.

This happened on numerous occasions before and on the day of the tragic incident on Sunday. At 1.36am on Sunday, the suspect for the murder of traffic officer Tshepi Kotelo, 26, and her mother Chileke Makitla, 62, posted this message: “Do for love be a brother 4 love life.”

Three minutes later, his timeline was updated with a picture of himself walking two fierce-looking dogs.

Kotelo and her mother were found dead at their home in Ntoane village near Dennilton on Sunday. At 8.52am on Saturday, his Facebook update was a loving picture of the couple attending a public event. The photo is framed with antiwomen abuse message.

Yesterday, police spokesman Moatshe Ngoape said the man was still on the run.

Kotelo’s family told Sowetan on Tuesday that she had sought a protection order against the suspect after he had beaten her up more than once.

But the man’s social media profile paints him as someone supporting the campaign against violence on women.

The man, who is in his 30s, had used profile picture frames supporting the cause at least three times this year.

In other updates, the man posted lovebirds pictures of himself and Kotelo, accompanied by messages such as “Respect women” and “These (sic) queen gives me love so I protect her. Guys be man enough ... stop the ongoing abuse ...”

On August 14, he posted: “When you love someone just fight for her no matter how hard it is cos love is power ...”

But a post four days later, at 12.18am, suggested trouble in paradise: “I suppose I could just walkaway I (sic).”

This week Facebook users vented their anger on his timeline and called the man to hand himself over to police.

“Mxm then why did u kill her if u were loving her??” wrote Morongwe Caroline.

Lindy Lee Nomasonto Hleza wrote: “I pray unto the Lord that he may be found so he can face the consequences of his demons mxm.”

Meanwhile, the man alleged to have doused his girlfriend with petrol and set her alight in Atteridgeville at the weekend was arrested in Limpopo yesterday, police said.
