Khoza in papgeld drama

Ex-band member refers child’s mother to girlfriend

- By Patience Bambalele

A Rosettenville, Johannesburg, woman has accused top choreographer and singer, Vukani Khoza, of ducking to pay papgeld.

Khoza, a former member of kwaito group Skomplazi, is allegedly accused of failing to pay back R60 000 last year. The woman, who has a 14year-old boy with Khoza, said she has been going to court to get Khoza to pay maintenance.

“Even when he does pay, he never gives the full amount. The money comes in dribs and drabs. It is a struggle.

“When we discovered that the child has a learning disorder, he was supposed to pay R1 500. The money was for his education because he needs a special school and medication. He still failed to assist me.”

She said last year Khoza came up with an idea that they should start an Uber business together. The woman said she gave him about R60 000 for a planned business.

After the money was transferred to Khoza’s account, she said he came up with stories.

When asked, Khoza admitted to her that he spent some of the money, while the balance was with his girlfriend.

Khoza said: “The person who was going to partner with us pulled out and I did not see a reason to continue. But I have been paying her rent since January.”

He denied that he was failing to maintain his son.

“I know the drama of baby mamas, especially towards artists. They know that even the law is on their side. I am forever sending her e-wallets. People who know me can tell you that I spend my free time with my four kids.”

The woman said when she wanted money for rent and maintenance, Khoza referred her to his girlfriend, who always “insulted” her. Khoza said he did that because he travelled a lot.

“Since they are women I thought they would understand each other better.”
