Sascoc Reddy to bring suspended CEO to DC
Tubby’s lawyer wants clarity on charges
The SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) is set to haul its suspended chief executive Tubby Reddy before a disciplinary committee in “due course”.
This is the latest in the long drawn-out saga between Sascoc and Reddy, who stands accused of misconduct.
“The Sascoc board has accepted the recommendations of the investigation and Mr Reddy has been given a written notice of the charges against him and that disciplinary proceedings will be commencing in due course,” said Murray Alexander of Norton Rose Fulbright SA Inc, acting for Sascoc.
Alexander, however, said he was not in a position to provide details of the charges.
Reddy was suspended by the Sascoc board in July after allegations of sexual harassment of a female staff member, known to Sowetan, were levelled against the veteran administrator in April.
He was initially placed on a 30-day suspension with full pay until August 18, but this was extended to August 31 to allow a comprehensive investigation.
Reddy told Sowetan in May that the sex scandal was a ploy to oust him and he sought intervention from Sport Minister Thulas Nxesi.
It is not surprising that his case is running parallel with the commission of inquiry instituted by Nxesi, who has accused the Sascoc board of “allegedly mismanaging the labour and discipline issues in so far as the CEO [Reddy] is concerned”.
Nxesi, who also instructed the probing of the Olympic governing body’s financial affairs, said the ministerial inquiry will run separately.
Reddy’s legal representative, Dev Maharaj confirmed receipt of the charge sheet but he too could not divulge the charges against his client.
“We have received a charge sheet which we are still studying but note that issues are being raised that go back many years ago which were never previously raised and as such, we are in the process of drafting a request for particulars to the charges to obtain clarity on them,” Maharaj told Sowetan yesterday.
