Myeni leads SuperSport to victory

Baptism for De Sa as Stars lose again

- By Gomolemo Motshwane at Lucas Moripe Stadium

With a late strike and assist, newcomer Sifiso Myeni powered SuperSport United to a 20 victory against Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium last night.

The new arrival from Bidvest Wits endeared himself to the Matsatsantsa with a goal in the 85th minute and an assist that was converted by Jeremy Brockie after the 90th minute.

Roger de Sa had only one training session to prepare for his first game in charge after his appointment last week Friday.

The nomadic tactician was hired to replace Peter Butler. Dikwena played like they were still trying to make sense of it all. The sudden coaching change, added to the fact that the club was up for sale.

Eric Tinkler, on the other side, steered SuperSport to the MTN8 final. They were also targeting a positive result ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinal first leg against Zesco United on Friday.

SuperSport dictated the tempo through their central midfield pairing of Dean Furman and Teboho Mokoena. With Enocent Mkhabela and Vuyo Mere in midfield, Dikwena were pinned back working overtime in their own half.

Matsatsantsa winger Thuso Phala looked to connect with Brockie but the striker’s header flew wide off the mark in the 17th minute.

With his trickery and nimble feet, winger Aubrey Modiba was exposing the weaknesses of Stars right-back, Michael Mabule.

After coming on as a substitute for Dove Wome in the second half, Myeni came on to put everyone out of their misery. The winger gave the fans something to cheer with his goal in an otherwise unexciting match.
