Sechaba nurses wounds after attack

Gospel star says Lesotho officials refused to help

- By Patience Bambalele

Four days after he was allegedly assaulted in Lesotho, gospel star Sechaba Pali has still not received medical treatment.

Pali said he was assaulted on Friday night in Lesotho while visiting family.

In a bizarre twist, he could not receive medical attention in the Mountain Kingdom, forcing him to drive more than 150km to Botshabelo, near Bloemfontein.

There he was allegedly also sent away because the nurses said he needed to report the matter to the police. When he got to a police station in Botshabelo, he said he was told to report the crime in Lesotho.

They returned to Lesotho, got a police form and went to Queen II Hospital in Maseru. An official who was meant to assist with the form was allegedly not at work, forcing them to drive back to SA without being attended to again.

“We are going back today to get a signature at the hospital and open a case.”

Pali said he was badly treated because of a certain chief's influence.

The drama unfolded at the house of Pali’s wife, Maletsatsi Makapalla in Khubetsoana, Maseru in Lesotho.

Makapalla said the problem started when she questioned her “unlawful eviction”, along with her sibling, in early 2000.

She said the eviction was endorsed by the chief himself.

“He wrote a letter for my late mother’s boyfriend to evict us. I was young then, but I wanted to know how it happened because I still have the original documents.”

Pali said a group of men together with the chief Whose name is known to Sowetan came and demanded to speak to Makapalla.

He said they were armed with sticks and knobkerries.

“Since I saw that they were not here to negotiate, I asked them to speak to me. They began attacking me, I found myself on the floor.”

Pali sustained injuries to his body and face.

Attempts to speak to the chief and hospital officials failed.
