Eco Finesse brings hygienic products made out of Soweto
Venture focuses on eco-friendly products
When Katlego Mathathe founded Eco Finesse in 2015, the company specialised in organic skin care products.
He later ventured into manufacturing household detergents.
Mathathe, 25, who was bitten by the entrepreneurship bug at an early age and used to sell sweets, earrings and watches while still in school, now prides himself as a leading organic detergents manufacturer and supplier to come from Soweto.
The products are handmade in Meadowlands.
“We are breaking into a new market. As part of growing the company, in July we introduced a washing powder, drain cleaner and disinfectant liquids.
“There was a need for us to manufacture the products because we started getting new clients such as food service providers, gyms, healthcare facilities, lodging establishments and schools. We no longer just focus on households,” Mathathe said.
He said delivery for bulk orders took about two to three working days.
“We understand [that] customers value luxury and affordable prices, therefore, our aim at Eco Finesse is to provide good performing products at prices our customers will afford.
“I currently work with other entrepreneurs and we all want to empower youths to open their spaza shops where Eco Finesse products will be sold,” he said.
The company also manufactures pine gel, dishwashing liquid, floor polish and toilet paper. Their skin care range includes cocoa butter lotion, hand sanitiser and coconut oil.
Mathathe, however, said the company had decreased the production of skin care products because “the target market was not formally introduced to organic products and sales were not doing well”.
Eco Finesse has six employees, including Mathathe.
“We don’t use machines. Our products are handmade. This will help us create more jobs in the future,” said Mathathe.
“We are the millennial generation leaders in the organic health-care and hygiene revolution. All the products are environmental friendly and biodegradable.
“The use of natural biodegradable products reduces your exposure to harsh toxins and chemicals, and reduces contamination of the environment.
“What makes us different from our competitors is our focus on eco-consciousness. Our products are suitable for everyone due to the organic nature which we pride ourselves in,” he said.
Mathathe is a final year law student at the University of South Africa. He has a number of business and law-related certificates.
