Starrett City to light up again

Losing tickets can win you a house

- By Racing Editor

Although his main mission was the R750,000 Grand Heritage later this month, Geoff Woodruff-trained Starrett City is clearly a better horse over 1600m, particularly on the Turffontein Standside track and the five-year-old gelding should go close to winning Race 5 at the course today.

Starrett City illustrated his liking for this course and distance when beating Champions Cup in February. Tyrone Zackey’s charge has won since while Starrett City was again at his best in May when slamming Arpad by 5.50 lengths.

Admittedly Starrett City, who has also been nominated for the Summer Cup, has not done as well since but probably was just in need of his last run when sixth, 5.30 lengths behind Dan The Lad.

TAB and Betting World continue with their competition and are giving away eight houses in eight weeks. To qualify for this competition all you have to do is spend R10 or more on a losing bet and hope to have your ticket drawn.

While not hoping that today’s recommended bet loses, there is always a chance the losing bet turns into a winning house.

The suggested bet is a multiple and goes like this: Race 1 No 1 Swing Vote a Place, Race 2 No 8 Go Thuli Go for a Win, Race 3 No 6 Carmalita a Win and Race 5 No 2 Starrett City a Place.

Trainer Ernie Anderson does not have many horses under his care yet still manages to have the occasional winner and his charge, Swing Vote, should run very well in the opening race.

The four-year-old gelding ran his worst race for ages when well beaten by Darkest Hour recently. That run was way below his previous form but it is worth noting that Darkest Hour won well again last week.

Swing Vote is courseand-distance suited.

Go Thuli Go did not show much on debut but performed a lot better in her second start and is hard to oppose. The Standside track should suit the Brave Tin Soldier filly as she was running on very nicely on the Inside track last time out.

Australian import Carmalita was narrowly beaten on debut and is likely to be even smarter this time. She bumps what looks a weak field in Race 3.
