Freese parts ways with Eagles

Dlangalala steps in at NFD bottom side

“I know Micho from when I was at Pirates and he is an excellent coach. Pirates have had a positive start which will make it interesting.

“It won’t be easy coming up against such an experienced coach. Benni must know that Pirates are a different side to the one he played for five years ago,” he said. While in the Absa Premiership there have been three coaches already fired so far this season, the National First Division (NFD) only saw its first casualty yesterday when struggling Royal Eagles parted ways with Allan Freese.

Eagles’ general manager James Dlamini confirmed that Freese has been relieved of his duties at the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit, just four games into the season.

“Yes it is true, he is no longer our coach,” said Dlamini. “We decided to go separate ways with him.

“Zipho Dlangalala will be a caretaker coach until we find someone who will fill the void left by Freese. It is still early and we are confident that we will achieve our objective at the end of the season.”

Freese had joined Eagles in April when then-coach Kosta Papic’s ill-health forced him to go back home in Serbia for medical attention.

The former Highlands Park coach was unable to guide Eagles to the play-offs after finishing fifth last season.

Eagles are at the bottom of the NFD log with only two points from four games. Freese’s last game in charge was a 2-1 defeat to University of Pretoria on Saturday.

While coaching Highlands Park in the Premiership last year, he only lasted five games.
